Adult Class Information

Halestone offers classes for adult dancers of all levels.

Fall 2018 Adult Schedule:

Classes for adults in 2018 are offered as part of our new sampler classes. These classes rotate styles, techniques and instructors every 9-weeks, letting you try more different kinds of dancing per year.

Our 9-week calendar:

  • First Quarter, August 20 – October 21
  • Second Quarter, October 22 – December 23
  • Third Quarter, January 3 – March 3
  • Fourth Quarter, March 4 – May 12

Adult and Teen Sampler, Mondays 6:30-7:30pm

Quarter 1: Beginning Ballet with Caitlin Smith

Students will learn the foundation of ballet, terminology, body placement and musicality. The groundwork of ballet is set at the barre where students will learn placement of their feet, bodies, and arms. Combinations will progress to the center where components of balance and coordination are attained.

Saturday Adult Sampler, Saturdays 2:00-3:30pm

Quarter 1: Beginning Tap with Molly Smith

This class will focus on the fundamentals of tap. We will start with the basics and build up from there. Classes will begin in the center with a warm- up, then go across the floor working on specific steps. We will build up our skills and be able to work on combinations and students will be able to create their own steps and sounds.

1 hour Sampler classes have a tuition of $80.00 for the entire 9-week session.

1.5 hour Sampler classes have a tuition of $105.00 for the entire 9-week session.

Adult Company at Halestone, Mondays 7:30-9:00pm

Mini-session: August 20 – September 21st with Emily Strong

(We would like to continue an Adult Company all year long. We are hoping that this mini-session can be used to gather interest. If you have questions, concerns, are interested, or have suggestions, please let us know by emailing Mauri Connors at halestonedirector@gmail.com)

In this introduction to adult company, the dancers will create a performance piece as an ensemble, while exploring theatrical tools for storytelling as well as choreography and creative writing. This course will culminate in an optional performance at the Lexington Bloc Party on September 21st. Whether or not all class members choose to perform, they will all have a role in shaping the dance. This class is open to all, regardless of dance experience. All that you need is a willingness to create!

Emily Anne Strong grew up in Lexington, where she attended Halestone dance studio and was one of the founding members of the Community Dance Connection Theatre. She earned her Masters in Classical and Contemporary Text from Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She has also studied at Stella Adler Studio of Acting, Shakespeare’s Globe in London, the American Shakespeare Center, and the American Dance Festival. She has performed on stages in London and Glasgow, in short films, and in a yet-to-be-released web series. Three of her plays have been staged for the public; one as part of Stage to Page, a workshop with Playwrights Studio Scotland, for which it was competitively chosen. She is excited to return to Halestone as an instructor for adult company!

The mini-session of Adult Company is $50.00.
