Artistic Director 

Halestone Dance Studio seeks an Artistic Director to begin as soon as May of 2023. This nine-month position comprises approximately twenty hours per week, including 3-4 hours of dance instruction through our company program. The position includes the potential to supplement salary through additional dance instruction either through existing afternoon classes or through the development of daytime offerings. The initial contract is for two years with the opportunity for renewal. Salary range begins at $18,000 and is commensurate with experience.

The Artistic Director develops and directs dance performances with students and community members of all ages, instructs and oversees our company programs, manages teaching staff, studio curriculum, and supports the Executive Director in developing new audiences and donor interest. Our next Artistic Director will continue to strengthen our growth as a non-profit organization and should value the opportunity to grow with and shape this position. Applicants should demonstrate strong artistic vision that supports the creation of original work and a commitment to dance education. A BA or comparable credential in dance or related field or professional credentials with similar experience is preferred. Strong applicants possess an active knowledge of the dance field, including the ability to teach multiple styles of dance to a variety of ages and abilities. Halestone is a non-profit dance education organization focused on providing equitable access to dance experiences in Lexington and Rockbridge County, VA. For 45 years, Halestone’s innovative approach has fostered student participation in the creative process, bridging technique, theory, and practice in the studio and in site-specific, community performances. Executive Director 

Halestone Dance Studio seeks an Executive Director to run operations and provide organizational leadership in collaboration with the Artistic Director. The ED position is a half-time, 12-month appointment with flexible hours and additional opportunities to teach. The position will begin as soon as April 1, 2023. Salary range begins at $20,000 per year and is commensurate with experience.

The Executive Director is responsible for establishing and implementing policies and operations across Halestone’s educational outreach and studio programs; managing year-round finances and bookkeeping; developing marketing and audience communications, and maintaining studio facilities and equipment. In addition, the Executive Director will actively pursue funding opportunities and partners, writing grants and generating donor interest to meet annual fundraising goals. Working closely with Halestone’s Board of Directors and Artistic Director, the ED’s focus is to steer and sustain long-range plans for the Halestone Foundation. Applicants should demonstrate experience relevant to managing a nonprofit organization that prioritizes community engagement and a commitment to equitable and accessible education. Strong applicants will demonstrate a background in the performing arts, experience coordinating educational or arts programs, and prior success with grant writing or fundraising efforts.
