Adult Class Information

Halestone offers classes for adult dancers of all levels.

Fall 2018 Adult Schedule:

Classes for adults in 2018 are offered as part of our new sampler classes. These classes rotate styles, techniques and instructors every 9-weeks, letting you try more different kinds of dancing per year.

Our 9-week calendar:

  • First Quarter, August 20 – October 21
  • Second Quarter, October 22 – December 23
  • Third Quarter, January 3 – March 3
  • Fourth Quarter, March 4 – May 12

Adult and Teen Sampler, Mondays 6:30-7:30pm

Quarter 2: Contemporary Modern with Mauri Connors

In this 9-week session (October 22 – December 17) on Contemporary Modern dance participants will be guided through an overview of modern dance. Classes will introduce concepts present in many forms of modern dance, such as rotation in the hip socket, weight shifts, sequential patterns, and levels of touch. Class exercises are informed by a variety of dance styles and practices including somatic forms, classical ballet, classical modern, West African dance, and contact improvisation. We will spend time going across the floor, working on group improvisation, and softening into the floor. Class suitable for dancers with a variety of backgrounds in dance, both beginners and those with more experience. Ages 14 + through adults.

Saturday Adult Sampler, Saturdays 2:00-3:30pm

Quarter 2: Beginning Jazz with Conditioning with Molly Smith

**Jazz with Conditioning will be a shortened session. It will run for 6-weeks from November 3 through December 15th. No class Saturday, November 24th. Cost: $70 for the 6-weeks or $15 drop-in**

This class will start with the basics and build towards a traditional high energy jazz class. We will be learning the foundations of jazz, while also getting into different characters. We will start in the center for a warm up and small body conditioning, move across the floor, and end class with a combination. Each class will focus on conditioning certain parts of the body to better utilize the limbs and torso for dance combinations.

1 hour Sampler classes have a tuition of $80.00 for the entire 9-week session.

1.5 hour Sampler classes have a tuition of $105.00 for the entire 9-week session.

Adult and Teen Sampler, Mondays 6:30-7:30pm

Quarter 1: Beginning Ballet with Caitlin Smith

Students will learn the foundation of ballet, terminology, body placement and musicality. The groundwork of ballet is set at the barre where students will learn placement of their feet, bodies, and arms. Combinations will progress to the center where components of balance and coordination are attained.

Saturday Adult Sampler, Saturdays 2:00-3:30pm

Quarter 1: Beginning Tap with Molly Smith

This class will focus on the fundamentals of tap. We will start with the basics and build up from there. Classes will begin in the center with a warm- up, then go across the floor working on specific steps. We will build up our skills and be able to work on combinations and students will be able to create their own steps and sounds.

The Halestone Foundation

The Halestone Foundation is a non-profit organization that houses Halestone Dance Studio and its community outreach.
