Dance Teaching Artist

Halestone Dance Studio, a nonprofit dance studio run by the Halestone Foundation in Lexington, VA, seeks a part-time dance teaching artist starting August 2020. Halestone seeks to hire a teaching artist who is both an active artist and also a practiced educator. While experience with a variety of forms is a plus, for this role we seek someone who has experience teaching and performing tap and jazz to a variety of ages (ages 7 through adults). Experience teaching and/or performing any or all of the following dance forms would also be helpful: hip-hop, African dance forms, step, partner forms such as swing or ballroom, and/or clogging.

Halestone is a community dance organization that teaches 20+ classes per week at a studio location and teaches dance in the public schools and preschools. Halestone students perform at various events throughout the year and typically have a culminating performance each spring. Teaching artists are expected to work with the artistic director to choreograph for students and prepare students for performing at events. More information about Halestone’s mission, history, class descriptions and philosophy is available on our website: www.halestone.com.

In compliance with all applicable laws and in keeping with its history of an inclusive community of dance that honors all body types, Halestone Dance Studio does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, veteran’s status, or genetic information in its dance programs and activities, admissions, and with regard to employment.  Students, instructors, and staff have the right to be free from prohibited discrimination, harassment, and retaliation within the Halestone community.

This opening is for approximately 4 hours of instruction per week. Pay is commensurate with past teaching experience.
