Dance Teaching Artists
Halestone Dance Studio, a nonprofit dance studio run by the Halestone Foundation in Lexington, VA, seeks dance artists interested in teaching weekly dance classes August 2021 through May 2022 in a variety of styles including but not limited to: African dance, Appalachian clogging, ballet, choreography and improvisation in all styles, and modern and contemporary dance. Dance artists experienced teaching multiple age groups in community settings in particular are encouraged to apply.

Halestone Dance Studio, located in Lexington, VA, seeks an Artistic Director to begin in the fall of 2021. This is a nine-month, half-time appointment with the potential to supplement salary through dance instruction. Halestone is a non-profit dance education organization focused on providing equitable access to dance experiences to the local and surrounding areas. For over 40 years, Halestone’s approach has fostered student participation in the creative process, bridging technique, theory, and practice in the studio and in community performances. Halestone Dance Studio is located in historic and scenic Lexington, Virginia, home to two liberal arts colleges, Washington and Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. In the heart of the Shenandoah Valley, the region offers an inspiring setting for site-specific choreography, a wide range of artists and musicians, and a unique opportunity to explore the moving arts. Applicants should demonstrate strong artistic vision that supports creation of original work, openness to collaboration, and commitment to dance education. Applicants should be dedicated leaders who can nurture Halestone teachers, students, and the larger Halestone community through the creative process. The Artistic Director stewards Halestone’s artistic vision by directing and developing dance performance with students and community members of all ages. The Artistic Director manages teaching staff and curriculum in collaboration with the Operations Manager and shepherds fundraising efforts with the Board of Directors. The next Artistic Director will have the opportunity to implement the aspirational strategic plan recently adopted by the board and develop financial support through broadening the donor base and expanding funding from individuals and institutions.
An MFA in dance or related field or professional credentials with similar experience is preferred. Strong applicants possess an active knowledge of the dance field, including the ability to teach multiple styles of dance to a variety of ages and abilities.
