Site Specific Saturday or Sunday

Halestone Dance Studio started a site specific program this past dance year that allows us to get outside the studio and create. This program will allow you to consider the aspects of a place that make it uniquely itself and respond with movement. Come join us on Saturday or Sunday afternoons at different locations around Rockbridge County. We will be exploring and reimagining the elements of each location by thinking about: perspective, historical or contemporary use of place, who was there before, material and texture of the location, ambient noise, the way light shifts the space, and reasons to dance at the site. Please contact director@halestone.com if you are interested in joining this program and would like more information about when we are meeting and where! You will receive exact meeting coordinates via email.

Dates: TBA

Led by Molly Smith

Previously visited locations include;

Devil’s Marble Yard, Back campus at Washington and Lee University, Brushy Hills, Jordan’s Point, and Boxerwood

Adult Ensemble

Adult Ensemble is open to all interested dancers 18 years of age and older. No prior dance experience is necessary. Dancers must simply have an interest in exploring the creative process through movement and their bodies and be willing to try new things. While performing is not required, Halestone’s Adult Ensemble will be included in many Halestone and community performances. Members of Adult Ensemble who do not wish to perform can opt out of any performance. Halestone’s Adult Ensemble will explore movement and the creative process through teacher led warm-ups, guided improvisations, some modern dance phrase work, and opportunities to participate in the creation and performance of original choreography.
