Support Halestone

The Halestone Annual Fund is crucial for supporting our studio's programs. For 47 years, we've offered high-quality dance training to all, but we need community support to keep our programs running. Your tax-deductible donations enhance our students' experiences. Every contribution matters, so please give what you can today.

Why Support Halestone?

01

Inclusivity

We empower all bodies, of all ages by providing equitable access to anyone in our community who wants to dance, whether they are taking first steps in a “Caregiver and Me” class, or returning to dance as a member of our Adult Ensemble (ages 20-80). For those who can’t afford weekly dance classes, the Halestone Foundation partners with Brittigan and Grace Community Funds to provide class and performance scholarships at all levels.

"Halestone is a second home for me. My experience here goes beyond the ability to learn a wide range of styles including those that are less commonly found in other studios such as clogging and contact improvisation. Beyond teaching technique, Halestone brings children into the creative process by guiding them to develop their own choreographic and improvisational skills. There is an emphasis on the joy and love of dancing rather than perfection, bringing us together in community rather than separating us through competition. My Halestone experiences continue to inspire my dancing today as I seek quality connections with the dancers and artists I encounter and feel confident in my ability to collaborate with them. Halestone taught me to love my body and to celebrate everyone's uniqueness, wherever they may be in their own journey." - Riley Kuehner

"Halestone prepares you to go beyond K-12 knowing how a community in dance should look. Halestone showed me a positive environment in dance that is difficult to recreate in other places. The sense of support, love, care, and dedication that the studio is filled with is unmatched. Halestone not only prepared me in a way of community, but also in movement. Halestone gave the structures and technique necessary to dance in the outside world. Halestone also provided the space to allow individual artists to grow and thrive through improvisation and choreography.I grew up at Halestone and fell in love with it from day one. Halestone gave the opportunity to have a positive experience in dance that allows room to fall in love with it." - Alexis Henk

02

Community

We sustain community artists and students by providing our talented movement instructors with a welcoming community and a living wage. In turn, instructors and guest artists help us meet our mission to provide excellent movement instruction here in Rockbridge County. We pride ourselves on our particular expertise in developmental technique, contemporary theory and practice. This approach allows us to support dancers in a healthy but stimulating environment. Many of our alumni not only pursue a future in movement studies, but they tell us Halestone sustained them by giving them a place to belong, as a dancer and a person.

03

Creative Excellence

We foster creative thinking by freeing students in our studio and outreach programs to use their bodies as innovative instruments for self-exploration and new ideas.  We teach and train young people to have strength in their own vision, and also regard other’s perspectives through collaborative dance, contact improvisation, dance history, and intergenerational performance.

"I spent over 10 years dancing at Halestone and to this day still care about the organization. It has given me a long lasting community of artists, many of whom still continue to pursue dance and remain connected to Halestone as teachers, supporters, and friends. Halestone’s emphasis on expanding the artistic mind as well as technique has given me tools to succeed in a university setting. Creativity, choreographic input, and the knowledge of every dancer is valued here, which translates to a well rounded insightful dancer. Additionally, my time at Halestone has taught me to embrace the unknown and appreciate many kinds of art, no matter how outside the box. Now, a wide variety of influences affect my dancing style, but my time at Halestone remains an inspiration that I carry with me wherever I go." - Emily McClung

Help us reach our ambitious goal of $20,000 by June 2025.
